Title: Encode
Date: 2015
Medium: Sculpture, Light installation
Description:
The collaborative piece Encode joins the act of creation and destruction. Found photographs, acid, and light symbolically represent the formation and degradation of memory. The lights fading on and off mimic a neuron activation sequence used to encode memories, while the acids in the vials slowly consume the photographs. These family snapshots mirror the desire to preserve collective memory despite its inevitable deterioration.
